Natural Pool
The breakthrough: only 5% of total surface as filtration area

Swimfresh Filter will fit into almost any garden*

Ever desired to swim in "drinkable water"? Were you held to believe that such system would not be suitable for you as the filtration area would take up such large amounts of space that you would almost have no swimming area left? The reality looks different - meet the future of natural swimming pools with the breakthrough Swimfresh Filter that enables almost anyone to realize a natural pool or natural pond in their garden.

From now you can enjoy the beauty of bathing in natural water without sacrificing a huge amount of space by relying on conventional, solely plant based filtration. You will be able to look after your Swimfresh System yourself and you will not need to waste valuable space in your garden or money for construction work that might obscure your garden.

Visually seperated filter bed make a retro-fitting even easier

Swimfresh natural pools feature an aquatic biology with long-term stability, providing the ideal mix of attractive setting and ease of maintenance. When opting for a natural pool, it is essential to take into consideration the work required to run and maintain it. This will ensure that you can enjoy the quality and usability of your pool for many years.

Conventional swimming pools require the use of chemical additives, but with a natural pool this is no longer necessary. However, in order to achieve a stable aquatic biology, the facility still needs to be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis. Only then your Swimfresh natural pool system can guarantee untroubled bathing and swimming - last but not least thanks in no small part to the Swimfresh System.

Freedom to explore a very individual and unique design

We will create your natural pool on site according to your requirements. The vertical walls which divide the swimming area from the shallow area can be made from a combination of pvc lining and concrete, natural stone or wood. The filter system is purpose-designed at the planning stage for each individual natural pool and adapted to the particular nature of the site. The filter zone can be located directly beside the natural pool's swimming area or may be totally separate from your formal natural pool setting.

And don’t forget that we can even convert your existing swimming pool into a natural pool! Depening on the existing size, scape and of your pool the re-usable components may vary. In an optimal case it may be possible to leave the majority of your existing structures in place and simply create a serperate filtration area to turn your conventional pool into a natural pool.

Seperated filter bed

1The filtration bed is visually seperated from your formal pool setting. Water is constantly circultaed through the filter and nutrients are primarily stored within the substrate contained in the biological filter.

The biomass in the substrate and/or root area of the filter zone is rapidly and efficiently supplied with oxygen, nutrients are thereby dissolved in the pond water through the permanent throughflow of water. The filtration helps to decompose all soluble nutrients and enables the pool's biomass to thrive in a stable as well as aerobic condition in the long term.

Compared with systems where water does not flow through the regenerative zone, the rate of decomposition of nutrients is considerably more efficient. The aerobic conversion of nutrients in the filter also has the effect of reducing pH levels.

Skimmer technology

2Although a conventional wall skimmer may potentially be used it is essential to bare in mind that the effectiveness of a wall skimmer does not reach the same level as this of our patented "donut skimmer" that has a much higher suction producing significantly better results. Futhermore a "donut skimmer" tolerates a much higher level of water fluctuation than a regular wall skimmer (this may come in handy if you spend an extended time away from home and the water level is not checked on a regular basis).

In a natural pool setting a wider opening than a wall skimmer will be required and the skimmer will mostly be positioned under a timber deck. In the case of a natural pond the skimmer will be integrated in such a way that it fulfills the hydraulic requirements of the pond, yet does not become visually obstrusive in the pond setting.

The pump technology

3Isn't the idea of having a Swimfresh natural pool a lot about doing something good with and also for nature? Well as this seems to be a fairly obvious goal we attempt to use the lowest energy consuming pumps possible. Depening on the dimensioning of the filtration area (varies according to positioning of pool, number of regular swimmers and climate conditions) it is often possible to run the filtration with a pump as low as 350watt (0.35kWh).

An auxiliariry pump (usually same wattage, however runs only about 2h / day) is used to run your skimmer that may be fitted with an automatic pool cleaner ("Kreepy Krauly").

Depening on your existing pool setup and/or your design aspirations the pumps may either be located in a seperate pump room (distance to the pool varies with the size of the pool and the pumps to be used in order to fulfull the necessary hydraulics to gurantee the effectiveness of the system) or alternatively be installed neatly into a Polyethylene pump box that is positioned in the ground.

Seperated filtration area

A seperated filtration area helps to easily retro-fit conventional pools and maintains a formal pool setting.

Formal setting

A formal pool setting is adviseable for those who desire to swim in natural water without a visual association of plants within the swimming area.

Health benefits

Permanent elimination of pathogen germs through natural micro organisms.

Pump box

For quiet pump operation we have developed a special polyethelene box that conveniently sits in the ground close to your pool (distance varies depening in hydraulic needs).

Object of the month

Leveraging on the continiously growing experience of 300+ installations a year and wide international experience throughout a variety of climate zones did help to advance biologial water filtration to a point where the Swimfresh System can rely on a filter sized at only 5% of the entire water surface*. This particular object benefited immensely from the possibility of an optimized filtration area that was integrated directly into the exisiting gunite shell. A fiberglass lining helped to set the right framework for effective long-term easy maintenance and helps to increase the water temperature slightly. Relying on a fiberglass linining in conjunction with the Swimfresh System will enable you to achieve approximately 28-30°C* without any need of fitting an additional heating that would increase your electricity bill.

*Sizes do vary depending on the natural surrounding as well as required usage patterns. Temperature may vary depening on wind and general weather. Measurement based on peak summer (Jan-Mar) in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa.
